چکیده

We calculate the factor by which thermal phase fluctuations, as distinct from phase-slip fluctuations, increase the inductance LJ of a resistively shunted Josephson junction ~JJ! above its mean-field value L0 . We find that quantum mechanics suppresses fluctuations when T drops below a temperature, TQ5\/kBGL0 , where G is the shunt conductance. Examination of the calculated sheet inductance LA(T)/L0(T) of arrays of JJ’s reveals that two-dimensional ~2D! interconnections halve fluctuation effects, while reducing phase-slip effects by a much larger factor. Guided by these results, we calculate the sheet inductance LF(T)/L0(T) of 2D films by treating each plasma oscillation mode as an overdamped JJ. In disordered s-wave superconductors, quantum suppression is important for LF(0)/LF(T).0.14 ~or T/TC0,0.94!. In optimally doped YBCO and BSCCO quantum suppression is important for l(0)/l(T).0.25, where l is the penetration depth.

Josephson Current For a Graphene Nanoribbon Using a Lattice Model

A tight binding approach based on the Bogoliubov-de Gennes approach has been used to calculate the DC Josephson current for a lattice model for S-GNR-S junctions , for short junctions with respect to superconducting coherence length. We calculate the phase, length, width and chemical potential dependence at the Josephson junction and discuss the similarities and differences with regard to the t...

Small-capacitance Josephson Junctions: One-dimensional Arrays and Single Junctions

Small-capacitance superconducting tunnel junctions provide an ideal system for studying the interplay between the Josephson phase and the charge on the junction electrode, which are quantum mechanically conjugate to each other. This interplay can be probed through the superconductor-insulator (SI) transition [1], which is a quantum phase transition occurring at T = 0. The SI transition has been...

Sub-Micron Thin Film Intrinsic Josephson Junctions

We have fabricated sub-micron intrinsic Josephson junctions in thin films of Tl-Ba-Ca-Cu-O using two differing techniques suited to different applications. By using lateral focussed ion-beam milling we have created arrays of intrinsic junctions in -axis oriented films. Such arrays, with areas as low as 0.25 m, display large hysteresis comparable to that observed in single-crystal intrinsic junc...

Phase-locking in Strongly Coupled Squid Cells

Within the RSJ model we performed an analytical and numerical investigation of SQUID cells consisting of two Josephson junctions shunted by an extremely small inductance leading to strong coupling of the elements. Contrary to the well-known behavior of cells shunted by a high inductance voltage phases of the junctions are locked with very small phase difference for almost all values of external...

Anomalous proximity effect in underdoped YBa2Cu3O6+x josephson junctions

Josephson junctions were photogenerated in underdoped thin films of the YBa2Cu3O6+x family using a near-field scanning optical microscope. The observation of the Josephson effect for separations as large as 100 nm between two wires indicates the existence of an anomalously large proximity effect and shows that the underdoped insulating material in the gap of the junction is readily perturbed in...
